Philippa Gouldson is a fashion designer whose work explores the tension between visibility and palatability, examining how women are expected to negotiate their presence within everyday spaces. Her graduate collection, Visibility vs Palatability, draws on her academic research, using hyper-visibility as a form of feminist intervention that challenges the unspoken rules of dress imposed on women.

Through space occupying silhouettes and a vibrant monochromatic palette, she creates garments that resist conformity of social expectations and judgements. Extending beyond garment construction, her practice embraces styling and image making as a critical tool; a series of five location-based shoots situate the collection across both mundane, everyday environments and traditionally male dominated spaces. By placing her models within these contrasting contexts, away from the runway,  the work foregrounds the tension between visibility and palatability, using the environment as an active component in shaping meaning.
